Blown away by new Blouberg hotel

It was a cold, wintery day when we arrived at the brand new Blaauwberg Beach Hotel on the shores of Cape Town’s western seaboard. The wind was blowing, hard, bringing with it a light rain and a big swell. There was a definite nip the air, but the kitesurfers were already out in full force, taking advantage of the conditions.

The glass doors of the hotel slid open as we approached, offering a warm and calm respite from the chaos outside. After nine years in the making, we were expecting a lot from this brand new beachfront property and it did not disappoint. Hues of blue and white echoed the spray of the ocean that could be seen from just about anywhere in the hotel and made us feel like we were instantly on holiday!

With a stunning beachfront restaurant, a wide open cocktail lounge, three plunge pools, a magnificent spa with juice bar and hairdresser, the hotel has loads to explore. But that’s if you ever tear yourself away from your room.

Entering the doors to ours, the open-plan bathroom sprawled out into the large bedroom, with views of the ocean, those colourful kites and Table Mountain drawing us in and all the way out to the balcony. With the wind whistling through the room, we couldn’t help but brave the weather and take our coffee outside – the views were just too special to miss, even for a second.

And so that’s exactly where we decided to spend the rest of the day, holed up in glorious splendour watching the Cape of Storms at her very best…

And while it was hard to believe life could simply get any better than that when the sun did show her head the following morning we took a stroll to the beach, just a few metres from the front door, fully relaxed, recharged and ready for whatever Cape Town could throw at us next!
