This June we will be off on a winter adventure close to home. That’s right! Did you know you could ski in Southern Africa? Afriski Mountain Resort is located in the heart of the Drakensberg-Maluti Mountains in Lesotho and is one of only two ski resorts in Southern Africa! And we will be there for Winterfest and an experience that is sure to be one of Southern Africa’s most unique music festival experiences.
The event will feature some of the biggest acts in the Lesotho and South African music scene. “Winterfest is back and this year, we want to be the opening and headline act to your winter in Southern Africa,” Alex Torrao, Co-Founder of Afriski Winterfest told us.
We will be attending this one of a kind, snow and mountain music festival at the official season opening from the 7th to the 10th of June while another Winterfest event will also close the season with a bang from the 23rd
to the 26th of August.
In 2017, the likes of Gangs of Ballet, Desmond and the Tutu’s, Morena Leraba and DJ Viktoria lit up the multiple stages on the slopes. This year we look forward to seeing performances from Jack Parrow, Rubber Duc, Albert Frost, Gunshot Blue, Sean Hayz, DJ Wags as well as Lesotho’s very own DJ Mocheques and Dj Davertz. With four unique stages featuring various styles and tempos from Indie, to Rock and R&B, it is sure going to be a party to remember. “From the fun and authentic Pop-Folk hybrid sound that is Rubber Duc, or the deep,
funky soul of DJ Mocheques to the brash, in your face Afrikaans swagger of Jack Parrow. Whatever stage, whatever day, Winterfest 2018 will have you on your feet,” promises Alex.
To add to the unique setting we will be surrounded by snow and are looking forward to ski and snowboard lessons! This mountain kingdom has to be one of Southern Africa’s best-kept secrets. With snow, Basotho hospitality and Southern Africa’s most unique music festival, we can’t wait to see what Afriski Winterfest will deliver!
