10 reasons to stay at Eendracht Hotel in Stellenbosch

Voted as one of the Best Small Hotels in South Africa and a serial recipient of the Trip Advisor’s Best-of-the-Best Travellers’ Choice Award, the 4 star boutique Eendracht Hotel is located in the historic town of Stellenbosch in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Whether you’re called to the area for business or leisure, you’ll discover a home away from here at the Eendracht.

Here are just 10 of our top reasons to book your stay at this gorgeous property:

1. Location, location, location

stellenbosch

Eendracht is located on a prime spot in Stellenbosch, towards the top of Dorp street within easy walking distance of most of the historical and cultural attractions of this original part of town. Within a few feet of the front door a number of museums, art galleries, theatres, parks and trails are just waiting to be explored, so there’s always something to do no matter the weather or your mood.

2. Friendly service

According to the owner of Eendracht, “First time guests typically choose Eendracht because it’s well situated in Stellenbosch, but they return because of the award-winning service they received.” And having experienced this service firsthand I can certainly say it’s true. The small team here always has a smile to share and they’re on hand for anything you may need, whether that’s making up the sleeper couch in your room for a tired toddler, serving a delicious cappuccino in your room, or assisting with a quick and efficient check in.

3. Great activity options

Eendracht holds a great relationship with Stellenbosch’s Adventure Shop, located just round the corner from the hotel. The staff at their front desk can quickly assist you with booking any number of bike and wine tours offered by the activity centre. We thoroughly enjoyed our e-bike tour, combining some healthy (but not too strenuous exercise) with learning more about the rich history of the area and some wine tasting too! When we were feeling lazy, it was also such a pleasure to be fetched directly from the hotel by the Adventure Shop’s vine hopper for a hop-on, hop-off day of visiting some of the magnificent wine estates in the area.

4. A room for everyone

The original building that stood on this spot and on which the Eendracht is model was a small two-roomed cottage built in 1710. This building was lovingly reconstructed by the Lutz Trust in the 1960s, remaining true to the original architecture. However, now the property boasts 12 en-suite bedrooms, a dining area, huddle room, and beautiful interior courtyard with pool. If you’re travelling as a family there’s a great teenager room downstairs alongside some more spacious doubles, while honeymooners will love the junior suites which feature oversized baths and their own balconies. Just round the corner from the main hotel property there you can also find three newly refurbished self-catering units in a restored 1928 art deco-styled house.

5. Fabulous breakfast

The great breakfast is a fantastic way to start your day in Stellenbosch and a necessity to line the stomach for all that wine tasting you’re sure to be doing. Pick and choose from a delicious selection of muffins, pastries, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and meats and cheeses on their continental buffet before ordering a homely full English breakfast or freshly prepared omelette which is served to you at your table. With a specialty coffee of your juice and a selection of juices included, you won’t go hungry or thirsty!

6. And more dining options

Senobia’s Restaurant where breakfast is served is also open to the public for lunches and dinners on request. Look forward to a delicious seasonal menu featuring traditional South African dishes while their Sunday lunch is something of local legend. Visit on a nice-weather day and take a seat on the terrace where you can sip on some home-grown wine while watching the world go by for hours on end.

7. No loadshedding

While the property may be small with a guesthouse feel, they operate in a manner of a much larger establishment. What that means is that the lights are always on, the WiFi is fast and efficient, and the smallest details have been thought of, right down to the USB plugs beside the bed. If you’re planning on travelling to Stellenbosch for business these small details make a big difference.

8. A great place to combine business and leisure

Following on from the above point, the Eendracht’s meeting room, referred to as The Huddle Room, is a great place to retreat to if you need to do a bit of business on your Stellenbosch retreat. The room is equipped with state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities and anything else you need for today’s inevitable Zoom-type meetings, while the garden patio provides a perfect spot to meet with clients in the area.

9. A focus on the environment

Despite being located in the heart of town, Eendracht has a big focus on the environment. In their safe complimentary parking area you will find an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging point for guests, biodegradable cleaning products are used for, a solar system powers the low wattage LED lights, and a number of other inniatives are being taken to minimize the hotel’s footprint on the environment.

10. Part of the Cape Country Routes

Both Eendracht and The Adventure Shop are members of the Cape Country Routes – a group of individually owned hotels and attractions located along the country’s country roads. Each place or activity has been hand-picked for its unique character, offering something special from your ordinary run of the mill hotels. When you join their loyalty program and stay at somewhere like Eendracht, you’re guaranteed a 10% discount on your stay, a complimentary room upgrade and a free bottle of wine in your room on arrival. Now that’s a great deal!
