The Constance Hotels and Resorts brand is one that’s synonymous with luxury. Although their collection of resorts extends to hotels in the Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar, this is one brand that sells more than just bed nights. They have a genuine passion for hospitality that translates into an ethos of living your best life, appreciating the finer things in life, and cherishing special moments, all in the most beautiful of surroundings of course. And this they do by combining blissful spa treatments, with exciting adventures, a stellar standard of service, and gourmet cuisine to create a holiday you’re unlikely to forget.
With all that in mind, I recently was privileged enough to spend a blissful few nights at the beautiful Constance Belle Mare Plage on the island’s east coast with my husband and daughter. Here are a few things that stood out from our journey to Mauritius:
The dining experience
Although Constance has a myriad of restaurants to choose from, including beachfront sushi cafes and fine-dining cellar affairs, with the family in tow we chose each night to eat at the restaurant’s main La Citronnelle restaurant. Serving a buffet style offering for both breakfast and dinner, the restaurant is located alongside the pool with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. At the buffet itself there was a wide selection of cuisines to tickle the tastebuds, including curries from India, stir fries from Asia, a pasta and pizza station, a live cooking barbeque style arrangement, and a vast array of cold salads and sandwiches. But my favourite things were the kid’s corner where our daughter could pick up some dishes made especially for her, the endless assortments of deserts, and the ice-cream bar where they also served freshly made pancakes in the morning!
A watersports extravaganza
While many holidaymakers were content to simply laze on the beach all day, we choose instead to walk its 2km stretch of shoreline. And when our weary feet called for a lounger the heated pool located just outside our room was the place to be. The resort also offered a variety of on-the-water activities to keep one entertained from waterskiing and wakeboarding to sailing, kayaking and stand up paddle-boarding. Our favourite activity however had to be the snorkelling excursion. A spell of rain in the morning meant we were the only people on board, which was actually a blessing as mom and dad could take turn in the water while our little one ran around, keeping an eye on the fishies, and her parents, as they swam around her.
Time in the spa
A holiday wouldn’t be complete without some time at the spa and the one at Constance Belle Mare Plage doesn’t disappoint. Alongside the treatment rooms the spa has a sauna, steam room, two whirlpools, a cold plunge pool, swinging day beds, and even a hair salon. It was the ideal place to escape while the little one was taking a nap with dad to enjoy some much-needed me time.
Kid’s club
What gives me great delight in travelling now that I have a toddler in tow is watching her small face light up at all the new experiences on offer and this was especially the case when she discovered the kid’s club and a whole section of the resort made just for her. While she was too young to be left alone at the club we enjoyed playing with her on the jungle gyms, swings and in the imagination space where there was a vast array of toys for younger guests including playhouses, kitchenettes, tool workshops and ride along cars. The kids club also has its own swimming pool, gaming computer stations and programme of events including treasure hunts, arts and crafts, pizza making and more.
Constance Prince Maurice
During our stay we also made sure to pop down to the resort’s sister hotel, Constance Prince Maurice, for lunch. As one of the most luxurious hotels in Mauritius, Constance Prince Maurice offers a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere in a secluded bay, surrounded by lush greenery. Exquisite cuisine, infinity pools, floating restaurants, delicious cocktails, beach picnics, and shady swings are the order of the day here. Well worth the visit!
